Dear Families,
We had a busy day and were glad Chloe surprised us by returning one class period early. Many thanks to Mrs. Kristin Miller and Mrs. Dominique for helping us today. We enjoyed a Bible activity with Mrs. Esther's class in the church yard and heard the story of the beginning of the Church. In Latin we attacked another lesson. That's two for this week. The children are doing well with memorizing the Lord's Prayer--I'm very proud of them.
In history, we heard our narrations, and listened to a book on Sojourner Truth and heard a folktale from the old South called The Talking Eggs. We covered a lot in grammar. I plan to finish the book but this may mean we only touch briefly on some of these remaining lessons. A lot of them are about writing and Trinity is planning to have more writing instruction built into the schedule next year.
As we closed out Oliver Twist, we discussed question 10 in the back of the book. Even though things turned out well for Oliver, we know that in real life it does not always seem that way. I taught them about Romans 8:28 and hit once again on the truth that our awesome God can take what is bad and hurtful and He never wanted to happen and somehow pull something good from it. It was a heavy discussion. I gave several examples and ended with: as horrible as slavery was, the Africans heard the Gospel as they attended church with their masters. The likelihood of that many hearing it while in their native tribes in Africa was slim. You may want to draw your children out and further discuss this.
In science we completed the dot-to-dots of the constellations and then began pulling our folders together. I will follow with an e-mail describing exactly how I want them put together. I hope you each have a great weekend and continue to work hard for only 3 more weeks!
I love my students!
Mrs. Tkach
