Dear Families,
Your child's teacher is fighting Spring Fever more than her students, I'm afraid. My son is home for Spring Break from the Citadel and I'd much rather spend time with him than work. All that to say I am sympathetic to the students that struggle to stay focused as the weather gets more and more beautiful! We had a good day. Mrs. Brenda Gudzan helped us and was wonderful. We acted out the ear being chopped off and healed in Bible then partnered up for more work on the Lord's Prayer in Latin. We'll do that one more time then get back into the book. In History, we watched a portion of a video about Lewis and Clark that is outstanding. It is by Ken Burns and is in the library if any want to finish viewing it. We read some books including one on Johnny Appleseed and then did an exercise in de-ciphering. It was quite difficult but we had a great time. They are to finish it for homework. We also experimented with constructing a cradleboard like Sacagawea used to carry young Pompy.
Grammar was. . .well. . .Grammar. I misread my lesson plans and we will not finish early and will probably have to cover 2 lessons per class to finish the book. In literature, we did an excellent exercise on a character trait web. Be sure to go over it with your student. We got started making our teepees for our Indian village and will finish next time. Science was a treat because we joined the 4th/5th graders and conducted a lab about Uranus. We finished our day with playdough and The Witch of Blackbird Pond.
Enjoy learning together this week. Take a minute to go out and watch a butterfly or a bird build a nest. Grab some friends or siblings and play tag. Ponder this Holy Season--we talked about that in class.
love,
Mrs. Tkach
